What does "mode" mean?

• What does "mode" mean?

• Awful question and awful example. In a real interview, I will definitely ask...

• @ycc0602 Mode here refers to the term we mostly come across in statistics.
Formal definition (Wiki): The mode is the value that appears most often in a set of data.

• Agree with ycc0602. Should give mode wiki definition. After do some google search, finally I know the meaning of mode number.

• The example was not good. Moreover, one of the test cases expected a different answer.

• I spent 10min on figuring out what is MODE........

• LOL they just changed to BT instead of BST.

• Yep. I searched "what is the mode of a tree" but found nothing useful. They should give some explanation or Wiki link. It's hard to guess it is a statistical concept.

• Hi all,

I apologize for this mistake. All our problems were prepared by a team of 3 people, and we double check each question before the contest starts. Unfortunately we are human and these kind of mistakes do slip by. We will be more careful in the future and err in the side of caution by providing more detailed definition. Thanks for your patience and understanding. Please let me know if you have any questions, and anything I can do to help make the contest result more fair to all participants.

• @1337c0d3r It is ok. It is just a very small misunderstanding at the end of the day. Truly amazing that there are only 3 of you guys! Awesome work! Keep it up!

• @1337c0d3r Thank you for your hard work. I have a suggestion. Is it possible to create a chat room in future. Then participants can give real time feedback in contest.

• @1337c0d3r Thanks for your hard work!

• you can google "mode", and then you can see like this

``````3. STATISTICS
the value that occurs most frequently in a given set of data.
``````

• @1337c0d3r , thanks for your effort, in the question it says if multiple mode found then return all of them in any order. I tested with this code and it is accepting the answer. [10,10,10,10,10, null,20,20,20,20].Doesn't it just considering only one Max Mode at this time? Can you please explain me.
